quantitative easing — this will not affect the pound in your pocket — like hell it won’t

Filed under: just whinging — anne thrope (miss) @ 3:12 pm

what a relief. finally, after months of trailed speculation which was no doubt intended to avoid scaring the horses when the actual announcement arrived, the bank of england, in addition to it’s symbolic further base rate reduction of 0.5% (fifty basis points, surely) has proclaimed the introduction of quantitative easing.

this cutely named baby was known as devaluation in old money (or should that be new money, now i’m becoming confused), but that term is too infra dig for the 21st century. call it what you like the result is the same — a little inflationary time-bomb stored-up for the future. oh, and a few million prudent savers even more hacked-off than they are already.

but in the circumstances that is almost a minor detail and something to be worried about and dealt with later in the sunny uplands of an economic recovery. well, let’s hope so.

and though, having been favoured with so much notice i’m already beginning to feel quantitatively eased, i suspect it will take much longer for any of us to feel qualitatively eased, if you get my drift.

but it will surely be that notion which will eventually encourage spenders, most notably first-time buyers into these choppy waters and breathe life into this stagnant economy.

take it (quantitatively) easy now ;-)
