man u win carling cup (but simulation comes back to bite)

well manchester united, fairly predictably beat tottenham to win the carling cup at wembley, but only on penalties since neither team had scored after 120 minutes of play.

you’ll judge from the above that the game was not a classic, and for the record the pens were a bit of a walkover.

but such lacklustre fare allows us the opportunity to revist the thorny subject of cristiano ronaldo.

one of football’s many cliches is ‘you win some; you lose some’ and on this occasion the leg-flailing maestro was on the losing end of a perfectly reasonable free kick appeal when he was brought down in a dangerous position outside the spurs penalty box.

to add insult to injury our hero was also given a yellow card for his trouble. quelle domage. (pardon me: i don’t speak portuguese but have a modicum of schoolboy french which will have to suffice).

so what’s the point of all this time-consuming blather, i hear you ask. well the point is that if the step-over maester did not so routinely cheat by what is now laughably referred to as simulation (diving, in old money) referees (though obviously blind; by the way who are their fathers — scuse i; just slipped back through the 1970′s space continuum for a moment) would be much more likely to rule in his favour in such situations.

bonnet de douche ronners. ;-)
