3rd test – england v west indies – antigua
so, as on so many previous occasions, england’s cricket team surrenders a winning position, or as the modern cliche would have it, snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.
to be fair, credit should be given to the final west indies pairing who preserved their wickets until an appeal for bad light was lodged, and sustained by the umpires, the match therefore ending as a draw.
but that does not spare the blushes of the england bowlers who should have sent them back in short order, for small change, securing a series levelling win.
as it is we have only the extention of the series to five matches following the abortive start at the sir vivien richards stadium to thank for the fact that it’s still possible for us to win overall.
plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose, as i’m almost certain they don’t say in antigua.
(to be honest, at the moment they’re more likely to be saying “where the hell is my dough (sir) allen?”)
